The very next day after my parents arrived we attended the Bernkastel Winefest. On this day, there is a firework "spectacular" at 9:00PM so that is the day most people attend. Brian missed this festival last year because he was back in the States, so this may be his only chance and he is glad he made it.
Here is the castle overlooking the river. Half of the fireworks are lit from here and the other half from a building down the valley. One site launches a lot of fireworks, then the other launches theirs. I like to describe it as a "firework war!"
A view from the bridge over the Mosel river connecting the towns of Kues and Bernkastel.
Here is us at the festival. Note the opposing "Gig 'Ems" and the necklaces around our necks. They hold a glass so you can drink your wine and not worry about having to carry your glass around all day and night. Hopefully I can find a use for it in the States.
The Firework show is set to music and this year featured just as interesting a selection as last year. It started with the "007, James Bond" theme, worked its way to "My Guy" from "Sister Act" with Whoopi Goldberg, not the original by Mary Wells No. 1 Billboard Top 100 single from 1964. It then worked in some instrumentals from "Pirates of the Carribean," contiuing onto John Williams' original "Star Wars" theme, and the finale was set to "New York, New York" as sung by 'ole Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra. Anyway, here is picture.
