Floors

After living in Germany in a house with all hard wood floors, Brian and I decided we did not want carpet in our new home.  Not to mention, we don't know who lived on the carpet before us.  We decided to start with the downstairs, the first room being the dining room.  While Kurt was here he helped Brian move all of the dining room furniture out.

First Brian ripped up the carpet and removed the baseboards (very carefully so we can re-use them).  The room had to be cleaned of all debris and then Brian had to scrape paint and glue off of the cement for days.

All of our wood.  The boxes are cardboard wrapped in plastic.  The plastic didn't stop Sabre from getting to his favorite snack (cardboard).  He unwrapped the plastic and ate 2 boxes!

Puppies enjoying the (almost) empty room.

The pups have since been barricaded out of the room.

Brian applying the moisture barrier/leveling agent.

All done.  We had to wait 24 hours before continuing.

All of the wood organized by size and color (each box varies slightly in color).

Brian's presents/rewards for installing the floors himself.  For all of his hard work he received a new compound miter saw and portable table saw.

The first cut!

Applying the glue, followed by the wood.

At the end of our first night of laying the floors.

End of day 2.

We still have to cut, sand, paint, and re-install the baseboards.  Then it is time to move in the furniture, and start on the living room!  Stay tuned for the after pictures.

I am so impressed! I wouldn't even know where to begin if I got the idea to install hardwood floors. My guess- the phone book. I can't wait to see the after pics!

Holy geez. I cannot believe how much work that is! And I thought putting a nursery together was hard ... you win!

What a coincidence, we have a carpeted area like that about the same size. When is Brian available?
