Update

Sorry we have not updated the blog in a long time.  We didn't have internet access for a while and then when we did it didn't work properly.  It is now working, kind-of.

We received our household goods on Fri 2/27.  Work wouldn't give Brian the day off, but luckily he didn't have to go in until noon.  Our friend Courtney came over for the afternoon to be with me while the movers were here.  Unfortunately while the movers were unloading our stuff we noticed everything in at least 2 entire crates (we had 13 in total, each with around 1,000 lbs) had mold/mildew damage.  This included our love seat, new dining room and kitchen chairs, patio table and chairs, secretary, trunk, bench, as well as a lot of other items.  There was mold damage as well as splitting and cracking in almost all of my wood furniture from Europe.  The moisture in the crate caused all of the wood to split along the grain.  A furniture repair company came to the house today for an in-home estimate.  It is going to be VERY expensive, but I have to wait until tomorrow to receive the official estimate.  I will then be filing a claim with the moving company.  Fingers crossed they will pay for all of the damage, but we have no idea how much they will pay or how long it will take.

Work has not been going well for Brian.  They continue to miss-schedule him which is causing him to get very frustrated.

Work is going well for me.  I returned from Phoenix, took a week off to unpack and deal with all of the moving damage, etc.  I will be working from home now that we have the internet set-up.  I enjoyed going into the office, but working from home is also very nice.

Brian bought his new charcoal grill/smoker combo last week.  He set it up on Friday, seasoned it on Sat and grilled a brisket and 2 pork butts on Sun.  We went to 5 grocery stores to find a brisket.  There was actually a better selection at the commissary in Germany!  Blake and Courtney came over to enjoy the BBQ with us.  The brisket was a little over cooked, but it was the most tender brisket Brian has smoked to date.  The pork was delicious!

We have also been busy learning how to maintain our pool.  Last Tues a pool guy/expert came out and taught us how to maintain the pool.  We've been getting the water tested every week at a local pool store.  It is a salt water pool and the water is a little old, so we're constantly having to add stuff to the water.  We're hoping to get through the summer before we have to drain the pool.  On Fri night we fired up the hot tub.  It was fabulous!!!  I even got too hot and had to have Brian turn off the heat.  We went to bed very relaxed.  We are looking forward to enjoying many more nights in the hot tub.

We plan on removing all of the carpet in the house and replacing it with hard wood floors (that we'll install ourselves).  On Sat we bought the wood for the downstairs: living room and dining room.  Unfortunately we were unable to find any floating wood floors that we liked so we purchased "glue down" wood floors.  We first have to apply a moisture blocking/leveling product.  Then we apply the glue and floors.  We have guests coming the next few weekends so for now the wood is just sitting in boxes in the dining room and entry way.

This weekend our friends Heather and Kurt are coming to Vegas to attend a wedding.  They are going to extend their trip through Wed to spent time with us.  We are really looking forward to their visit, but wish the house was in better shape.  On the 26th my cousin Di is flying out to help us with the house.  We don't have a single light fixture and need help getting the house put together.  Brian has banned me from buying anything for the house until I get Di's approval.  We hope Meg will come the 1st week of April to visit and pick up her German wine.

I promise to post more pictures of the house soon.  I have been so busy taking pictures of all of the damaged furniture that I just haven't gotten around to it.  I've also been waiting until we have everything unpacked and set-up so that you don't see a bunch of pictures with everything piled up on the ground.

OH NO! My heart sank when I read about the moldy furniture. I really hope that claim works out for you. Keep us updated- I can't wait to see pics when everything is settled.
