Red Rock Canyon Hike With Friends

Here are some pictures from a hike we took at Red Rock Canyon, just to the west of Las Vegas. There is so much iron oxide (rust) in the rocks they have a pronounced red coloring in many of the canyons and mountains in the area. This was not our first trip to Red Rock, just the first we posted.

Me and my friend Sara from Germany. Sara was in Vegas for a TDY. We were only able to get together twice due to her busy work schedule. She is due back stateside in July. Hopefully we will be seeing more of her then.

As we have found in Vegas, seeing a limo anywhere is not that uncommon.

Just starting out. A few days prior, the higher elevations got quite a bit of snow. This spring, we got about 3 good storms that dumped snow on the higher elevation mountains around the valley.

Halfway up the hike was this dam built by the fellow who lived on this land before the government took it over and made it a park. Actually, over 80% of all the land in Nevada is owned by the federal government now.

Higher up the hike, we encountered more snow.

This is where we quit. Apparently, there is an old miners "shelter" here complete with some rusted out tools, and a small logbook someone left where you can record your completion of the trip.

And here we are with the puppies.
