Bad Durkheim Wurstmarkt

For the first weekend Jeff and Laura were here we drove about 2 hours to the town of Bad Durkheim right on the Deutsche Wein Strasse or German Wine Road for the Wurstmarkt, or Sausage Market.  This is the largest wine festival in the world and was begun in 1417.

Here is a glass of wine.  You can get it cut with water in this big glass, which is what we did.  It was great.

As with all the German festivals, there was plenty of food, games, and rides.  Here is some food that we could smell from around the corner.

We have noticed that there are a lot of unexplainable things at some of the booths.  I think this is best explained by SNL's Harry Carrey asking "If you were a hot dog, would you eat yourself?"

Here is a booth that made license plates.  Since we can't take the German lincense plates that are on our cars with us, we decided this would be a good substitute.  We weren't sure what to put on the plate so we looked around the stall for ideas.

We thought this was a good idea...

But ultimately decided on this one.
