Brian's B-Day

We had a lot planned for Brian's Birthday this year (only 1 more year until the big 3-0).  Meg was still visiting so she got to partake in the Birthday celebration.  On Friday (the day before the big day) Christine came over and taught Meg and I how to make her Creme brulee (Brian's favorite).  Unfortunately it didn't even last until his Birthday (yum, yum).

On the big day, we all woke up at 4 AM and were out the door by 5 to travel to Metz France.  One of the biggest and best flea markets is in Metz France.  The flea market is held twice a month but this was the last one of the year.  I had been once before with friends last spring, but Brian had never been (or Meg).  After lots of walking around and looking, I decided on a few things to buy Brian for his B-Day.  One being a new (old actually) piece of furniture used to cut soap and then display it.  I know it is exactly what Brian had always been wanting!!!

After the flea market we went to the Metz city center and walked around.  St. Etienne's Cathedral in Metz is one of my favorite.  It is rumored to have the most stain glass in the world, even more than Notre Dame in Paris.  We even had time to enjoy some croissants and eclairs.

We rushed home from France in time to be picked by Burghart & Christine to go to one of Christine's friend's vineyards in Trittenheim.  The view was amazing.  We were on the edge of the Mosel river sitting on a patio enjoying good food, great wine and the best company.  We had a great time.

A view of the in Mosel river in Metz.  In France the spelling is Moselle, but it's the same river.

We saw some swans in the river.  There was one swan that it's feathers all puffed out and his wings curved behind him.  I had never seen anything like it.

A closer look.

Look very closely, you can see people picking grapes.  Machines pick the grapes on the flat vineyards, but on the steep ones they are still done by hand.

What a life: Sleeping along the Mosel river catching some rays.

A very blurry picture of the 5 of us.

On the walk back to the car, Christine stopped to grab some grapes for the ride home.

Happy Belated Birthday Brian! Don't worry. Paul and I will always be older. He turned 30 last March and I'll be 30 this March. Looks like you had a fun birthday!
